Those who rely solely on job postings see only part of the market.<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-recruitment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recruitment<\/a> process, a distinction is made between the open and the hidden job market. The open market includes all publicly advertised roles \u2013 on job platforms, company websites or in the media. The hidden market consists of positions that are not published: they are filled through personal networks, referrals, <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-headhunter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">headhunters<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-initiative-application\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">speculative applications<\/a>. This route is particularly common for specialist and leadership roles \u2013 estimates suggest that up to two thirds of such positions are filled without ever being advertised.<\/p>\n<p>Digitalisation has changed the open market: more roles are accessible online \u2013 but it has become harder for job seekers to keep track, and more time-consuming for companies to sift through suitable applications. At the same time, the hidden job market is gaining in importance through <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-sourcing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">active sourcing<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-recruiter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recruiters<\/a> proactively search for suitable candidates via platforms such as LinkedIn.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who wants to be visible in the hidden market needs a well-maintained, compelling <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-linkedin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LinkedIn<\/a> profile \u2013 and initiative. The hidden job market is more demanding.
