This is the principle behind the behavioural interview.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike traditional <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-job-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> questions \u2013 \u201cWhat would you do if\u2026\u201d \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-recruiter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recruiters<\/a> want to understand what candidates have actually done. Using the Critical Incident Technique, interviewers gather input in advance from managers and team members about situations critical to success: conflicts, leadership challenges, customer complaints. In the interview itself, candidates are then asked to describe comparable situations from their own past. This structured format \u2013 known in English as <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-behavioural-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the behavioural interview<\/a> \u2013 has proven particularly valid in studies, as it provides evidence of real behaviour rather than hypothetical responses.<\/p>\n<p>For candidates, behavioural interviews are demanding \u2013 and require targeted preparation. Anyone who wants to demonstrate leadership ability should be able to describe a specific situation from their day-to-day work in which they have shown it. The <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-star-method\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">STAR method<\/a> \u2013 Situation, Task, Action, Result \u2013 helps to structure such examples clearly and coherently.<\/p>\n<p>Those who succeed in doing so enable the interviewer to visualise their behaviour.
