That is the foundation of the behavioural interview.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast to traditional <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-job-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> questions \u2013 \u201cWhat would you do if\u2026\u201d \u2013 recruiters want to know what candidates have actually done. Using the Critical Incident Technique, interviewers first ask line managers and team members about success-critical situations: conflicts, leadership challenges, customer complaints. During the interview, candidates are then asked to describe comparable situations from their own past. Studies show that this structured interview format is particularly effective \u2013 because it provides evidence of real behaviour rather than hypothetical responses.<\/p>\n<p>For candidates, the behavioural interview is demanding \u2013 and requires targeted preparation. Those who want to demonstrate leadership capability should be able to describe a concrete situation from their professional life in which they have proven it. The <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-star-method\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">STAR method<\/a> \u2013 Situation, Task, Action, Result \u2013 helps to structure such examples clearly and coherently.<\/p>\n<p>Those who succeed in doing so enable the other party to visualise their behaviour.
