But many people misunderstand its purpose.<\/p>\n<p>There are countless misconceptions surrounding the CV \u2013 including whether it is still needed at all. After all, hiring decisions are about the future, not the past. And yet, the CV remains \u2013 and rightly so. Together with the <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-motivation-letter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">motivation letter<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-job-reference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">references<\/a> and diplomas, it forms the core of the application. Its role is clearly defined: to show that candidates meet the professional requirements \u2013 no more and no less. The reward for a strong CV is an <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-job-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a>, not a job offer.<\/p>\n<p>Personal <a href=\"https:\/\/2026.karrierecoaching.ch\/en\/glossary-strengths\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">strengths<\/a> and achievements do not belong in the CV. They only unfold their full impact in the interview \u2013 and lose much of their effect when listed in writing before any real interest in the person has been established.<\/p>\n<p>A CV should be structured in reverse chronological order \u2013 this is the only way to keep it readable. Even with many years of experience, three pages are sufficient. What matters is a clear and coherent description of responsibilities that recruiters can grasp quickly.
